Altitude training base reconstruction and expansion completed
Recently, the reconstruction and expansion project of Tibet Yangpachen altitude training base has completed. Not only will it train mountain climbing talents for the nation, but also it will become home to mountain climbing amateurs. Tibet Yangpachen altitude training base was established in 2006 and is the highest one above sea level.
Standing 4,318 meters above sea level, the base has a beautiful landscape surrounded by dozens of mountains that are 6,000 meters above sea level, Lake Namco as well as abundant geothermal hot springs. It is a natural place for altitude training.
And the training base is one of the key sports facilities building projects with total floor area reaching 4,753 square meters.
Phubu Tsering, secretary of Tibet mountain climbing team, said that the reconstructed and expanded Yangpachen altitude training base had been put into use. It is of great importance in improving mountain climbing conditions, promoting mountain climbing industry and consolidating the leading status of Tibetan mountain-climbing team.
"After the reconstruction and expansion, there are medical clinic, oxygen bar, library and multi-media classroom inside the comprehensive building. Besides, guest rooms are designed according to standard and can accommodate 150 people at the same time." said Phubu Tsering. He added, "The base, after acceptance, will provide a nice training and living place for mountain climbing amateurs from home and abroad."
Also, a tall training tower stands in the training base. Phubu Tsering introduced that this tower is 10 meters above ground, and the floor area is 185.7 square meters. It has four sides, two sides for mountain climbing training and the other two for rock climbing training.
Amateurs from home and aboard who participated Tibet Mountain Climbing Assembly and climbing athletes of the 2008 Olympic torch relay at Mount Qomolangma had once received training in the base.
In the past few years, Tibet has attracted a large number of mountain climbing amateurs here. And the Tibet Mountain Climbing Assembly has been held for 10 consecutive years with fervent social reactions.
