As a famous Tibetan doctor, 52-yearold Lodro Tsephel runs a hot spring vocational village in Shigatse Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region, who combines the two undertakings together to benefit his fellowmen.

Born in a well-known family engaged in Tibetan medicine, Lodro didn’t intend to be a doctor at first but finally became the inheritor of the 14th generation.

"I had a chance to be an accountant or a teacher, but I accepted the last wish of my father who wanted me to inherit the family tradition as a doctor and benefit others; and that was why I became a doctor focusing on Tibetan medicine," Lodro said.

Lodro Tsephel established his private clinic in 1998, and hetook over a hot spring hotel on the verge of collapse in the same year to practice his Tibetan treatment with hot spring.

After ten-year hard work in Tibetan medicine, Lodro was awarded the title of "expert of Tibetan medicine" with other 49 Tibetan doctors selected from more than 1,000 candidates in 2008.

Tibetan treatment after bathing in hot spring is effective against many diseases, according to Lodro Tsephel.

"To cure diseases in different parts of one’s body, patients bath in the hot springs for various time periods and take different medicines. The average treatment is about 15 days to 20 days," Lodro said.

"Hot springs in mountainous areas have good curative effect in diseases in stomach, skin, joint, lumbar , cervical vertebra as well as the ‘high-three’ diseases, namely high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high blood lipids," said the senior Tibetan medicine expert.

However, it only takes local patients 50 cents to 2 yuan for each hot spring treatment, and 7-10 yuan for each bed, which almost brings no profit for Lodro.

Except for curing local patients, Lodro would also help victims suffered from natural disasters in no time.

Over the past few years, he has donated more than 35,000 yuan to the areas hit by natural disasters, such as Wenchuan, Yushu, Damshung and Drongpa, but he still lives in his clinic without a decent house of himself.

"I will pass down the family tradition, and wish my children to keep struggling for Tibetan medicine and helping more people," said Lodro Tsephel with a determined look, "it is my goal and our family mission to make Tibetan treatments with hot spring benefit more people, helping them get rid of diseases and enjoy happy lives."
