Doctor is screening the local cataract patients.

A medical team from Tianjin was sent to Chamdo, Tibet Autonomous Region, to provide free surgeries for local cataract patients, and donate fund and medical equipments to local medical institutions in mid-August, 2012, according to tianjinwe.com.

The local hospital in Chamdo has conducted relevant screening among 240 patients, and reported about 100 patients who meet the surgery criteria before the medial assistance team’s arriving. Therefore the team brought instruments, supplies and lens, which can provide for 120 ultrasound emulsification and intraocular lens implantation surgeries.

Since the first day of their arrival, ophthalmologists from Tianjin put up three operation tables and conducted 63 surgeries in a single day after continuous working, which has set record of surgery amount of the hospital. In addition, the number of the patients has also exceeded expectation.

Many patients who did not take the screening during prior period also came for the treatments. . Considering their long, arduous journeys, the experts decided to add as more surgeries as possible to satisfy the requirements of Tibetan patients. The final surgery number reached 130, through doctors’ saving on surgery supplies and the collecting of usable materials from local hosipitals.

During the medical aiding project, the inland medical team has also provided training for local medical staffs, in order to maximize the effect of the activity.
