Atlas of Tibetan medicinal materials published
The Atlas of Tibetan Medicinal Materials was published recently. Collecting more than two thousands medicinal breeds, it provides scientific theory and practice references for Tibetan Medicine practical works, according to Tibet Daily, a local newspaper of Tibet.
The atlas is compiled by Losang Dorje, heritor of traditional Tibetan medicine processing technology, one of Chinese National intangible cultural heritage projects.
With description of 2,192 different medicinal breeds of Tibetan medicine in both text and graphics, the book is helpful in medicine materials identification, collection, procession, production, teaching and studying. It will become an important reference book of Tibetan medical staffs, and serve for standardization of Tibetan medicine industry.
Raidi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress, spoke highly of this atlas, and wrote an inscription for the book.
As one of the four traditional medicines in the world, Tibetan Medicine has a history of more than 2,300 years, with its unique theoretical system and treatment style. However, in the medical books published before, there are few physical photos of its medicinal materials, but only description and sketch, which brings inconvenience in identifying and using them. Moreover, there is chaos in correspondences of materials and names, which also restricts development of the industry. The newly published atlas covers the shortages and enriches study of Tibetan medicine.
