Tibetan pregnant women encouraged to give birth in hospital
Tibet's medical service and public health have been developing rapidly, especially the health condition of women and children.
In remote area of north Tibet, more and more pregnant women choose to give birth in hospital, which significantly decreases maternal and infant's mortality rate in rural areas.
To encourage rural and nomad pregnant women to give birth in hospital, Tibet has carried out a series of favorable policies. For example, all the cost of hospitalized delivery will be reimbursed, rural mothers who give birth in medical institutionswill get a reward of 20 to 30 yuan respectively, as well as their carers, and a suit of baby clothes will be provided. In addition, 100 to 500 yuan of subsidy will be given according to family economical conditions and birth process of puerperas.
According to statistics released by Health Department of Tibet, the maternal mortality rate has decreased from 4.67‰ in 2000 to 1.81‰ in 2011, and infant mortality rate has decreased from 35.28‰ in 2000 to 22.07‰ in 2011. On the other hand, hospital delivery rate of the Tibet has increased from 20.14% in 2000 to 62.49% in 2011.
