Over 60 percent of Tibetan residents enjoy free physical examination

Tibet government has launched “physical examination for all people” project this year and has benefited near two million people, accounting for over 67.21 percent of local residents.

According to statistics released by Health Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, among the near two million Tibetan residents, 1.4 million farmers and nomads have received free physical examination, and more than 500, 000 children have received congenital heart disease screening.

Jampa is one of the beneficiaries of “physical examination for all people” project. Without it, the 68-year-old will never know that he had had high blood pressure for many years. Now he regularly visits doctor and takes medicine in community health service center.

According to Li Bin, an official of Tibetan Health Department, there are many peoples there paying no attention to ailments until the ill is serious. the project is helpful to know health status of residents and ensure “early discovery, early diagnosis and early treatment”.

To conduct the project better, Tibet seeks cooperation with inland medical resources. Several inland hospitals, such as China-Japan Friendship Hospital and Coal General Hospital in Beijing, have participated by sending medical teams to Lhasa, Lhoka and Nyingchi since the middle of August.

In addition to medical examination, the Health Department also sets health records for urban and rural residents.

According to schedule, the free physical examination project will be completed by the end of 2012, and benefit over 3 millions residents in Tibet this time.
