The ongoing second comprehensive scientific research expedition of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will fill a number of data gaps on lakes and rivers in Ngari Prefecture, southwest China’s Tibet.

The first comprehensive scientific expedition of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was carried out during the 1970s, but there are still plenty of unknowns on Ngari. Compared with 40 years ago, the science and technology level, as well as logistics has significantly improved.

The data obtained in this expedition will provide an important foundation for research on environmental changes in the Ngari region and for the design and construction of the "Third Pole" national park.
