A new streetscape has gradually formed in Lhasa of Tibet, bringing the local citizens good places of getting knowledge. They are the 40 newly built newsstands, which have been completed and put into use this year with an investment of over one million yuan (about 17 million U.S. dollars).

In one of the newsstand located in the Linggor West Road, several young readers were buying the fashion magazines. There are magazines, newspapers, maps related to the fields of fashion, computer, medicine and so forth. The pedlar said that the business is getting better and better recently. In addition, the Tibetan version of Tibet Daily and other magazines are also very popular among the Tibetans.

"I often come here to buy the magazines about computer. It is so convenient that there is a newsstand near my home. But it will be better to add more books in Tibetan language," said Dorje Tsering, a local Tibetan citizen.

It is reported that there were only three press points of sale in the past, but now nearly every street of Lhasa has a newsstand. In the future, Lhasa will built the biggest wholesales and sales center for books, newspapers, magazines and audio-visual products of Tibet to promote the development of newspaper market.
