After seven years working, the new Kagyur Tunnel of Qinghai-Tibet railway has entered the final stage, and is predicted to be fully completed on April 15, 2014. The new Kagyur Tunnel is located in the Themdzong County which is between Xining and Golmud of Qinghai Province. With the total length of 32.645 kilometers, the average elevation of tunnel is above 3,600 meters, therefore, its geological conditions are extremely complex. After the opening of the tunnel, two hours will be saved for the train to cross Kagyur Mountain, thus the transport capacity of Qinghai-Tibet railway will be greatly improved.
