The Darma Festival Folk Tourism Garden opened in the Gyantse County of Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet on Aug. 30, 2013.

In Tibetan language, "Darma" means archery on the back of running horse. The Darma Festival held once a year is the traditional festival with unique features in the Gyantse County.

During the festival, various kinds of activities are held, such as the traditional dancing & singing performance, horse racing, yak racing, archery on the back of running horse and tug-of-war competition. Every year, thousands of farmers and herdsmen from the Gyantse County take part in the activities of the festival.

With a history of more than 600 years, the Gyantse Darma Festival has been listed as the national folk festival and national intangible cultural heritage now.

The folk tourism garden is a comprehensive renovation project constructed on the base of Darma field which is the fixed site for the past festivals. The construction of whole project lasts for 4 months and its test run lasts for 2 months.

During the test run, the folk activities earn rave reviews from the audience. The Gyantse Darma Festival Folk Tourism Garden will further improve its administration and normalized operation.

The opening of Gyantse Darma Festival Folk Tourism Garden will certainly accelerate the development of the cultural tourism industry in the Gyantse County and fully display its profound cultural connotation based on the rich tourism resources.
