Honored as the "Tibetan Three Gorges", the Pondo Water-control Project, which plans to operate its first generator set on October, 2013 in Tibet, has been to the stage of critical construction.

As one of the 23 projects in memory of the 10th anniversary of implementing Western Development Strategy, the Pondo Water-control Project is the most expensive water-control project since the peaceful liberation of Tibet in 1951. With a total investment of 4.569 billion yuan (about 0.74 billion U.S. dollars), the large hydro project is privileged to electric power generation, irrigation, incorporating with flood-prevention and water supplying.
