The year 2012 witnessed a major breakthrough for the transportation of Tibetan Autonomous Region. With more railways, highways and airlines, Tibet met historical dense passenger traffic.

In addition, much more aid-Tibet projects have been provided by inland China through the unimpeded path.

Transport infrastructure constructed and improved

Except for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway being operating, the Lhasa-Xigaze railway was also being built in the whole year, and had already completed its first two-kilometer tunnel.

As an extension line of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the Lhasa-Xigaze railway runs 253 kilometers with a designed transportation capacity of over 8.3 million tons every year.

The construction is estimated to be finished in 2014. Designed according to the top national standard, the railway will run at a speed of over 120 km per hour with 13 railway stations including Lhasa South, Quxu, Nyemo and Xigaze.

Looking back on the Tibetan highway construction, despite the bad natural conditions and weak economic condition, the amount of newly built and rebuilt highways in the past decade exceeds the sum total of that in the previous 50 years after the Tibet Peaceful Liberation.

Through the expressway, highway and national roads which have extended in all directions, local Tibetans won't need to worry about the trade transportation.

Meanwhile, the passenger traffic hit a historical high again. Take the Tibet airport for example, on November 16th, 2012, the passenger of airports in Tibet exceeded two million and laying a foundation for achieving 2.2 million passenger traffic of this year.
