“Xigaze” means a place with fertile soil and water in Tibetan language.

To go to Xigaze from Lhasa, people can choose the national road 318, which starts from the People’s Square in Shanghai and ends in Zhanm Port across the China-Nepal border, stretching for 5,476 kilometers,. Nowadays, in addition to this road, when the Lhasa-Xigaze railway under construction opens, it will also greatly facilitate the contact between Xigaze, Lhash, mainland China and South Asia.

“After one year or two, when the Lhasa-Xigaze railway opens, it will be easier for us to go to Xigaze”, said Tashi Tsering, a local official of Xigaze .

“And when the railway opens, passengers can see the Tashilhunpo Monastery as soon as going out of the Xigaze railway station, just the same as people can see the Potala Palace after getting out of Lhasa railway station,” added Tashi Tsering.

In his opinion, people’s expectation for the Lhasa-Xigaze railway is not less than their expectation for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

Tsering also said, relying on the railway station, Xigaze is planning to build logistics bases as well.

The improvement of transportation also helps people become rich.

“There were dirt roads or no road before, now we have roads in front of our houses extending in all directions, which is much more convenient for us. When the Xigaze railway station put into operation, I am going to sell ethnic handicrafts near it to earn some money.” said Phuntsok, a villager living in the Sema village of Jiacuo township, Xigaze.

Contributing to transportation progress, Xigaze’s trade, especially the frontier trade develops. Flourishing frontier trade has made local people’s income considerably increase. Tsering Wangdu, a man living in port Zham is just one of them benefiting from it.

A few years ago, Tsering Wangdo’s biggest hope was just bringing his children up, hardly imaging he can own ten millions yuan’s property. However, in 1986, this smart guy seized the opportunity in China-Nepal border trade and tourism, resigning his stable job, and began the border trade business with his great talent in Shire, Tibetan, Chinese, Nepali, and Indian. After years of hustle in the border, he finally got great achievement. Walking into his house, it is filled with modern facilities, such as television, telephone, refrigerator and seated toilet, etc.

“I believe more and more people will come to Xigaze and travel aboard after the opening of Lhasa-Xigaze railway. It will be good for the border trade business and Xigaze’s tourism.”Tsering Wangdo said with determination and confidence.
