Xigaze Prefecture is always the granary of Tibet. At the present time, it is endeavoring to develop agricultural zones, making them a new economic growth pole.

In north Xigaze city’s scientific and technological agriculture high-quality products demonstration zone, the new shelters are very remarkable.

Currently, a group of Taxus chinensis introduced from the inland have already been planted there and are in good care.

“Tibet is short of oxygen, but Taxus chinensis can produce oxygen, so we want them to become street trees in Xigaze through our cultivation and trial.” said Wangkun, director of north sub-district office of Xigaze.

Wang also said that 9 more shelters will be built in the demonstration zone, mainly used to cultivate high-grade trees and flowers.

The Xigaze’s administration center is now moving to south and leaving the north part as economic and technical development zone and technological agricultural high-quality goods demonstration zone, therefore, both parts can have coordinated development.

Wang also said, the technological agricultural high-quality goods demonstration zone will be line up with technical development zone, nearby vegetable greenhouse and Konjo Lingka, and functional sectors including catering center, entertainment center, shopping center and sightseeing center will be founded in the zone as well, which will greatly promote the local employment and economic development when completed.

Except for the technological agricultural high-quality goods demonstration zone, Xigaze Prefecture is also building the Nyang Qu agricultural base. Gyangze county, Panam county and Xigaze city are all respectively developing their own characteristic agriculture.

In the Panam modern agricultural demonstration zone, a slogan of “create a plateau vegetable base, develop Panam modern agriculture” is scrolling in the electronic screens in front of the office building.

With the help of aiding-Tibet cadres from Jinan, capital city of east China’s Shandong Province, Panam began to use shelter to cultivate vegetables since 1998. Nowadays, there are more than 200 shelters in its modern agricultural demonstration zone. What’s more, with the help of cadres from Jinan, Panam established its first intelligent greenhouse this year.

Agricultural zones in Xigaze Prefecture are developing rapidly and getting much stronger and bigger.
