According to the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural of Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet has basically completed the construction of 6000 low-rent houses in 2013, and will open them for occupancy the next year, benefiting nearly 20,000 poor people with the housing difficulties, reported by Xinhua.

With the total investment of 700 million yuan (about 115 million U.S. dollars), the 6000 low-rent houses has covered 74 counties of 7 cities of the whole region, achieving an overall floorage of 300,000 square meters.

Tibet has launched the security housing construction in 2006. Up to now, there are altogether 20000 low-rent houses in the whole region with a total investment of 2.1 billion yuan (about 0.35 billion U.S. dollars), reaching an overall floorage of 1.21 million square meters.

In order to make more poor families enjoy the guaranteed policy, Tibet has adopted the principle that first solve the housing problem of minimal assurance families, then the low-income families, and finally the middle and low income families. At the same time, the occupant standard has been lowered several times. At present, the occupancy rate of the low-rent houses in the whole region has achieved 92 percent.

Tibet is working hard to basically realize the goal of full guarantee for all the low-income urban families with housing difficulties. It is planed that the housing problems of urban families with below average income will be fundamentally solved by 2020. In addition, the migrant workers who have stable job in urban but no house will be incorporated into the housing security system.
