Since April 20, 2013, the old town of Lhasa city has begun the project of reconstructing household electricity meters. The power supply enterprises will read meters in every house directly, making the electric charge more transparent, freedom and convenient. The project will change the situation of disordering electric wires, aging power supply facilities and heavy overload in the old town, eliminating the serious hidden electricity danger for the users.

The central government has invested 2.18 billion yuan (about 0.36 billion U.S. dollars) in Tibet to implement the project of reconstructing household electricity meters. It aims to look for a better way to maintain a reliable supply and stably running power grid, improve the capacity, safety and reliability of the power supply and provide better quality of electrical services.

The nation plans to basically complete the reconstruction of household electricity meters in the total region of Tibet during 2013 and 2017.
