Renowned as the "lung of Lhasa", Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve of Tibet will accept about 700 million yuan (about 115 million U.S. dollars) to improve the quality of ecological environment, according to the planning of Lhasa City.

The Authority of Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve has drawn out the Overall Planning of Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve of Tibet Autonomous Region (2013-2025), which includes 15 projects, such as the relocation of residents in core area, ecological restoration of partial channels, anti-seepage projects, wetland extension projects and wetland museum.

Through photosynthesis, the Lhalu Wetland can absorb about 78,800 tons of carbon dioxide and create 57,000 tons of oxygen, therefore, it has got the name of "lung of Lhasa", according to Losang, a staff member working in the Authority of Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve.

Over 3,600 meters above sea level, the Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve has a total area of 12.2 square kilometers, accounting for 11.5 percent of the urban area of Lhasa. It is one of the world's rarest wetlands, the largest urban wetland nature reserve in China and the highest and largest city natural wetland of the whole world. At present, there are 62 kinds of rare birds inhabiting in the nature reserve, including national protected animals, such as black-necked crane and grey crane.
