The unique natural landscape and cultural heritages create incomparable tourism resources in Tibet. According to statistics, Tibet could provide nearly 300 scenic spots, which are Lhasa-centric and covering the whole region of Tibet.

However, the growing tourists may bring heavy burden for the holy place. How to enjoy the beauty of Tibet without disturbing its tranquility is a problem we should solve.

Tibet calculates the tourism carrying capacity for the first time

Recently, the experts have calculated the typical tourism carrying capacity of the Mount Qomolangma scenic spot for the first time and come to a conclusion that the Tebc is 12,000 persons per day, namely the ideal reception number of the Mount Qonolangma is 12,000 every day.

It is the first time for Tibet to research the typical tourism carrying capacity and environmental capacity, possessing original creativity and advancement in the very research field.

The Jokhang Temple also accepted the same calculation, arriving at a conclusion that its Tebc is 10,000 persons per day.

The scientific data is an important premise and support for the environmental protection in the Tibetan scenic spots.

Tickets price and tourists numbers are regulated in Tibet

In fact, Tibet has already taken some measures to control the tourist's number to protect its environment.

Take the Potala Palace for example. It has received a total of 1,010,000 person times since it has become the 5A-level national tourist sight, accounting for 10 percent of the total tourists in Tibet.

Every year from May to October, Tibet has its peak tourist season. To minimize the human damage to the civil architecture in the Potala Palace but satisfy the tourism demand as far as possible, it is regulated that 4000 visitors per day are allowed at most.

What's more, every 20 minutes about 100 visitors are permitted to enter the palace and stay inside the palace no more than an hour.

To protect the cultural relics is to cherish the history

The Lhasa old town renovation project has successfully completed recently. The Jokhang temple, which is located in the Lhasa old town, has also carried out a comprehensive protection project.

As a sight spot ranked in the World Heritage List, the Jokhang temple has 1300 years history and possesses very high historical and cultural value. Therefore, finding the balance point between repairing the temple and protecting the holy place for believers needs scientific research and management.

The current maintenance and protection projects include golden top maintenance, wall painting conservation, fire fighting, security engineering and drainage system renewal. It's a huge project and it costs 160 million yuan (about 26 million U.S. dollars) just to repair the golden top.

Besides the huge renovation project, the daily protect is also needed.

The Potala Palace had four fires and two lightning strokes in the history. Thus specially-assigned people are in charge of examining all the fire points, electric circuits and security situations, including butter lamps, censers, illumination lamps, lanterns and power circuits.

Tibet to build tourism e-commerce platform for online transaction

The tourism destination marketing information service platform in Tibet was opened in June, 2013. Compared with the industry counterparts, the one of Tibet is developed in three languages including Chinese, English and Japanese.

It has gradually become all-in-one platform of eat, housing, transportation, travel, shopping and entertainment and has made the travel business transactions online come true for the first time.

By the end of 2015, Tibet will establish a tourism e-commerce platform to realize online enquiry, booking and transaction of the tourism products including tickets and hotel reservation in order to solve the problems in peak tourist season.
