The launching ceremony of a large public welfare program, named "Mother's Parcel" was held by Tibet Women's Federation in Lhasa, Tibet on May 11, 2013.

It is reported that a total of 303,660 yuan (about 49,436 U.S. dollars) were donated by 11 institutions at the launching ceremony, including the Tibet Agricultural and Pastoral Office, the Tibet UnionPay, the Fukang Hospital and etc. With these donations, over 1,500 poverty-stricken mothers from more than 60 villages of seven cities can receive the mother's parcels.

The "Mother's Parcel" program is another large-scale public welfare program after the successful implementation of the "Mother's Reservoir" and "Mother's Health Express Train" activities launched by China Women's Development Foundation.

The program, supported by the postal service of the green channel opened by China Post, will sent "mother's parcels" filled with daily necessities worth 100 yuan ($16.28) or 200 yuan ($32.56) to the poverty-stricken mothers through postal parcels, so as to help them shake off poverty and feel the warmth of the society.

"Thanks to the good-hearted people in the society that I can receive the medical kit and daily necessities, and they are very useful to us." said Dola, a poverty-stricken mother lives in the Gyatso Community of Cheng Guan District of Lhasa, Tibet. The "Mother's Parcel", the first one Dola has received, is also the first gift she has gotten on Mother's Day.

"Since the ‘Mother's Parcel’ program has been launched in 2012, it has caused wide public concern. In addition, some enterprises in Shanghai also offer donations to the program. Up to now, over 1,000 mothers have received the mother's parcels," said Gyatso Lhamo, chairman of Tibet Women's Federation.
