According to the Qinghai Tourism Bureau, the Kumbum Monastery scenic spot had totally received 1.61 million person-times, achieving a comprehensive tourism income of 269 million yuan (about $43 million) in 2012.

Compared to 2011, the annual tourist reception had increased 11.9 percent, while annual comprehensive tourism income had increased 20.4 percent. Therefore, the Kumbum Monastery becomes the leading scenic spot in Qinghai Province, west of China.

Located in Huangzhong County of Qinghai Province, the Kumbum Monastery is one of the six monasteries Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is also the famous supreme historical sites and key cultural relics unit under state protection.

Currently, the Huangzhong County has invested 120 million yuan (about $19 million) into the tourism infrastructure, public services facilities projects and comprehensive improvement of the whole scenic spot, such as tourist service centers, and the water and electricity maintenance.

In the meantime, 130 million yuan (about $21 million) has been invested into the construction of the cultural tourism projects and over 30 cultural industry bases, including the He Huang Cultural Museum, which reflected the combination of Islamic, Han and Tibetan Buddhist culture from the ancient time in this area.

In addition, the cultural tourism industrial park "Eightfold Lotus" achieved an output of 380 million yuan (about $61 million).

Zhang jianmin, the deputy provincial governor of Qinghai Province said that all the measures above will optimize the tourism environment of the Kumbum Monastery, enhance its culture tourism development and also push forward the tourism industry on the plateau. Therefore, the tourism brand "Beautiful Qinghai" will be surly promoted.
