Tibet to curb 30% of desertified area before 2030
Tibet is about to curb 5.5 million mu of its desertified area in 20 years, in a move to protect its ecological environment.
Statistics show that Tibet has 21.7 million mu sandy areas, 18 percent of its landmass. The region now faces a serious situation in which desertification is expanding at an annual rate of 0.18 percent.
Tibet will start a project to prevent and control desertification later this year.
According to staff of the Tibet's Regional Forestry Bureau, with abundant contents, it is a huge project to protect and build the ecological security barrier in Tibet, including prevent and control desertification, afforestation, water conservancy facilities and so on.
Before 2030, the government of Tibet will put 30 percent of the desertified area under control. By that time, the air quality will be greatly improved with the decreasing of sand and dust.
