Temperature in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau rises by 0.3℃ every ten years
Temperature in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has risen by 0.3℃ every ten years since 1990s, according to a senior expert.
For the past ten years, Zhong Xianghao, senior researcher of Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment Research of China Academy of Science, has led a group of 30 members to launch a two-month filed investigation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau every year, working out a blue print for the construction of environment on the plateau.
Zhong Xiangbao said their data gained from investigation showed Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was the most serious region in terms of the rate of temperature increase in the world.
"In the past ten years, the plateau is changing remarkably. Many lake levels are rising with the expanding of area," Zhong said. A lot of grasslands in the vicinity of the Serling Lake are inundated while sheepfolds are forced to move due to the rising of water level.
"The water is a combination of rain and glacier," he added.
Zhong Xiangbao, 68-year-old, said:"The global change of weather has brought great influence to the plateau while human activities are relatively low by comparison."
