Low-carbon lifestyle new trend in Tibet

With the advent of the low-carbon era, an energy-efficient lifestyle has been becoming a new trend in Tibet, as well as in the rest of China.

Yangjin, a Tibetan woman, felt this profoundly because she had spent a low-carbon New Year, under her daughter's "pressure".

She said, "Usually 20 days before the New Year's Day, we begin purchasing goods and keep the meat and staple food in our refrigerator."

"This not only wastes energy but also may reduce the refrigerator's service life. Moreover, we get lazy by eating too much yet do little sports. At last, the superfluous food has to be thrown away."

But during this Spring Festival holiday, Yangjin's daughter, a freshman of Xiamen University in southeast China's Fujian Province, asked her parents to abandon their former habits.

Her parents' concepts of preparing abundant food for holidays which may lead to waste have changed as a result.

Yangjin also gave another example. "Previously, we set off too many fireworks, which I think was a waste of money and polluted the environment. This year, however, we bought fewer. I learned the concept of environment protection from my daughter."

Yangjin has kept to this low-carbon lifestyle since her daughter went to school. For instance, she began to sort out her garbage and choose walking to a nearby destination.
