Tibet to invest over 300 mln yuan in preserving wetland ecosystem

The local government of Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) will allocate 318 million yuan for the wetland ecosystem protection, in a bid to preserve the vulnerable ecological environment and wetland resources on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, according to the Forestry Bureau of TAR on August 26, 2010.

Eleven wetlands have been listed in the TAR's ecological conservation project, such as Mapham Yutso Wetland, Mitika Wetland, Pangong Tso Lake, Ra'og Lake, Trari Namtso Lake, Sangsang Wetland, the suburb of Shigatse, Tachog Tsangpo, etc., introduced an official from the the Forestry Bureau of TAR.

Up to date, 3 wetland parks at the state level and 17 wetland natural reserves at other levels have been built up in TAR with the overall wetland area amounting to more than 6 million hectares.
