In the Gyirong Town of Shigatse Prefecture of Tibet, which is known as the "backyard garden of Mt. Qomolangma", there is a special village bordered Nepal, and has inhabited a special group of villagers, Daman people.

They are considered as the descendants of Nepalese. Long ago, their ancestors migrated from Nepal to the Gyirong Town, now it has been six or seven generations. They have been mixed with the Tibetans, although they have native language, they often use Tibetan language. They have big and blue eyes, as well as dark brown skin.

It is recorded that the name of "Daman" came from their ancestors' occupation, cavalry. In the Tibetan language, "da" means "horse" and "man" means "army" or "multi", therefore, the Daman people are "the descendants of ancient cavalry". They had "no nationality" before May 2003, thereafter, they acquired Chinese nationality upon approval. Now the Daman people have already integrated into the local living environment. They create a new life with diligence and wisdom.
