With a total length of 1956 kilometers, the Qinghai-Tibet railway extends from Xining, capital of Qinghai Province to Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region in China. It has been the world's highest and longest frozen earth railway on the plateau at present. It has been safely operated for seven years since its opening on July 7, 2006.

Eighteen elders from Taiwan Province, southeast China, were leaving the K9802 train after several days travelling in Tibet on July 1, 2013.

"We are quite lucky to meet this special anniversary day, since this is our first time to travel on the Qinghai-Tibet railway and our train is the first one to depart from Tibet today. We are very happy!" said Liang Xinbao, an old tourist from Taiwan. He added: "We are proud to be Chinese when seeing China's beautiful Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and enjoying the warm service of conductors on the train. The Qinghai-Tibet railway doesn't let us down."

"Travelling on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by railway has been a wish of all our eighteen friends since seven years ago. Now it has been realized!" Liang Xinbao was excited though he had been to mainland China for several times.

With an average age of 62, the 18 old friends went together to Tibet, among whom, the oldest is 75 and the youngest is 56. They went to Lhasa, capital of Tibet on June 27, visiting the magnificent Potala Palace and later went to the Shigatse Prefecture.

Chen Youtian, a 75-year-old said that they didn't have any uncomfortable feelings due to the plateau climate, just a little chest distress when traveling on the Shigatse Prefecture whose elevation is above 4,000 meters.

Liang Xinbao's son took a special field visit in advance to Tibet through the Qinghai-Tibet railway to ensure the elders health and safety. Now the old men hope everyone from Taiwan could visit the holy place through Qinghai-Tibet railway.

Zheng Liangxiu, an old doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, had been to the mainland China for many times to study the traditional Chinese medicine. "I don't remember how many times I have been to the mainland. But I believe even one day I pass away, my heart will still be on this land. As far back as the opening day of Qinghai-Tibet railway in 2006, we had a wish to witness the miracle that our Chinese create on the roof of the world. Finally, our dream comes true!"

The 56-year-old Qiu Xiuxiang felt good in Tibet. "Whether in Lhasa or Shigatse, we sincerely feel that the Tibetans are very kind and friendly. Though sometimes we have difficulties in communication because of language, local people won't reject us because we are from places far away. The commodity prices in the scenic spots are fair and have no deceits."

The train speeding along the Qinghai-Tibet railway provided these old men a special and pleasant day.
