Tourism in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region is currently entering peak season as the snow plateau grows greener. Many local travel agencies have been offering some featured travel routes to attract tourists, Xinhua reported.

The featured travel routes include a three-day trip to Nyingchi and Lhoka, a 12-to-15-day trip to holy mountains in Ngari, tour around the Draksum Tso Lake, and others. Tourists from home and abroad can admire the unique and spectacular natural and cultural landscape.

"This year our firm has launched a number of high quality tourist routes such as rafting on the Nyangchu River, tasting stone pot chicken and viewing the forest sea in the Lulang Wuzhai Scenic Spot, and circling around the Draksum Tso Lake," said Ge Liang, manager of Tibet Holy Land International Travel Service.

The devastating Nepal earthquake on April 25 also jolted parts of Tibet, which caused some tourists to fear to travel there.

According to the Tibet Tourism Development Committee, the earthquake has slightly affected the tourism in Tibet. Except for the Qomolangma Base Camp, Dram and Kyirong which have been temporarily shut down, other scenic spots in Tibet have not been affected and are safe.

Statistics show that in the first quarter of this year, Tibet’s tourist industry managed to maintain its momentum of sustained development. The total number of domestic and international tourists reached 464,000, a year-on-year increase of 26.1 percent. Among them 1,934 were inbound tourists, a year-on-year increase of 15.4 percent. The total income from tourism was 519 million yuan (83.7 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 38.4 percent.
