Bright winter sunshine sprinkles on the surface of Napa Lake in Shangri-La. Quiet and peaceful idyllic scenery is gradually formed with the grassland, villages and thousands of birds that are looking for foods in the distant deep water area.

Napa Lake in Tibetan language means the lake behind forest. It is a classical seasonal lake with totally varying sceneries in four seasons. Between summer and fall, it is a big prairie like a carpet mixed with flowers, grass and highland barley. In winter it becomes a wide lake shining like a huge mirror.

Napa Lake provincial nature reserve was established in 1984 and enrolled in the Ramsar list of wetlands in 2004 as wetland ecological reserve where the plateau seasonal lakes and swamp meadow are all protected. Various kinds of migratory birds live through the winter in this paradise, which includes black-necked cranes, ruddy shelducks, bar-headed gooses, mallards, black storks, grey head cranes, great egrets, intermediate egrets, golden eagles, and vultures etc.
