"Painted Skin II", the sequel of the famous Chinese vampire film "Painted Skin" is currently shot in Tibet. Its main cast members, including actress Vicki Zhao and actor Chen Kun are working in Tibet for a tight schedule.
One of the three holy lakes, the Yamzhog Yumco Lake, will be shown in the sequel.
The Yamzhog Yumco Lake, known as one of the three holy lakes in Tibet Autonomous Region, is the largest inland lake at the northern foot of the Himalayas. The lake, more than 70 kilometers to the southwest of Lhasa City, lies in Nakartse County of Lhoka Prefecture in the southern part of Tibet and covers 678 square kilometers with its surface at an altitude of 4,441 meters.
The "Painted Skin" series are thriller movies centering on a vampire-like woman who eats the skin and hearts of her lovers. It is adapted from the ancient novel "Liaozhai Zhiyi", or "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio", written by Pu Songling in the Qing Dynasty.
"Painted Skin" directed by Gordon Chan mustered about 200 million yuan (US$30.5 million) at the box office within 19 days in 2008.It's no doubt why people are so keen on producing film sequels considering the massive fan bases and well-warmed potential markets.
Elements of the new film are moving forward. It features a different story unrelated to the original. Only Zhou Xun will reprise her role as the vampire-like woman, Xiao Wei.
In the sequel, Wang Sheng (originally by Chen Kun) and Wang Ying, son of Wang Sheng and Pei Rong (originally by Vicki Zhao) travel westward to explore and reencounter the fox spirit Xiao Wei along the way.
