The government of Tibet Autonomous Region strived to improve the living conditions of Tibetans and local residents. Chen Quanguo, newly-appointed secretary of the CPC Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region, pledged in Lhasa that more measures would be taken to help accelerate the economic development of Tibet.

1. Qinghai-Tibet grid interconnection project put into usage

The debugging of China's Qinghai-Tibet grid interconnection project was finished Wednesday and the grid will begin a trial phase on October 31. The grid was reported be qualified to be used on a trial basis after the debugging work, said Qiu Zhitao, an official with Hubei Electric Power Transmission Distribution Engineering Company, which runs the debugging project.

The project, which set up 900 kilometers of power lines in an area with an average altitude of 4,000 meters, is expected to be put into operation on November 15 after a 15-day trial, said Yu Le, Chief engineer from DC Construction Branch of China's State Grid Corporation.

"The government will make efforts to ensure public services such as transportation, power supply, telecommunication and TV programs to monasteries in Tibet,"Chen Quanguo said, adding that social welfare, including pensions, healthcare and minimum living allowances, will cover all lamas and nuns in the region.

 A distribution ceremony of social welfare certificate was held in Sera Monastery on December 21 and lamas of the temple all voluntarily joined the welfare system by receiving pension, medical insurance and subsistence allowances offered by the central government.

According to the management committee of the Sera Monastery, lamas only need to pay 112 yuan per person per year and they would enjoy the pension benefit in their 60s, receiving 120 yuan per month.

4.Lhasa inputs 13 million yuan for school buses
