The graduation ceremony of the first class of teenage Living Buddha was held on Monday in Lhasa, Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Seven students finished their three-year primary school education at the first comprehensive educational institution for Buddhism in the region, the Tibet Buddhism College, the China News Service reported.

The curriculum integrates modern teaching methods with traditional Buddhist education, including 20 percent for Buddhist theories and 80 percent for cultural knowledge as required by China's compulsory education, the report said.

China's Compulsory Education Law states that all children in the country older that six years, regardless of sex, ethnicity and religion should receive a nine-year compulsory education, according to the website of China's National People's Congress.

The tutors include three teachers from a local primary school for the compulsory curriculum and three mentors from the college for Buddhist theory, the report said.

The Tibet government started a class in 2015 for teenagers to cultivate new Living Buddha in the region, and the seven students will continue their middle school education at the Tibet Buddhism College in Lhasa with a larger proportion of Buddhist theory in the curriculum, the China News Service reported.
