Members in the religious circle were highly praised for giving play to their unique advantage in maintaining religious harmony, ensuring smooth Buddhist activities and safeguarding monastic harmony at the 4th Session of the 10th CPPCC Tibet Committee held on Jan. 26, China News reported.

Gonpo Tashi, vice chairman of Tibet People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) said in the work report he delivered at the Session that members in the religious circle persevered in publicizing patriotism and devout religious belief in remote rural and pastoral areas over the past year.

The publicity aimed to meet the needs of monks, nuns and religious followers in the remote areas, where Tibetan Buddhist hierarchs and rinpoches offered them sermons, gave them head-touching blessings and introduced relevant laws and policies to them.

At present, of all the 600 members of the CPPCC Tibet Committee, more than 100 are in the religious circle. According to the work report, these members helped interprete Tibetan Buddhist doctrines and canons in line with social progress to meet the demands of the broad followers, monks and nuns in religious belief. They also guided Buddhist followers to see through the 14th Dalai clique’s splittist schemes, effectively maintain religious harmony and promote Tibetan Buddhism to adapt to the socialist society.

Lodro Gyamco, a member of the CPPCC Tibetan Committee and also a revered lama of Sagya Monastery said: “Being a member of the CPPCC Tibet Committee provides me with a channel to participate in the administration and deliberation of state affairs and contribute to the development of Tibet.” This year, his proposal is about protection of the ancient town of Sakya located in southern Tibet’s Shigatse.
