Mt. Gang Rinpoche in SW China
The Mt. Gang Rinpoche, also called Mt. Kailash, is located near Lake Mapham Yutso in Purang County of Nagri Prefecture, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. "Gang Rinpoche" means "treasure of snows" in Tibetan. The Mt. Gang Rinpoche is regarded as a holy mountain worldwide, and it is the source of great rivers such as the Ganges, the Indus, and the Yarlung Tsangbo. It is also believed to be "the center of the world" in Hinduism, Buddhism, Bon, and ancient Jainism. As the main and second-highest peak in Gangdise Mountains, the Mt.
