Lantern fair of Buddha culture held in Sichuan

The first lantern fair of Buddha culture held in Rong County, Sichuan Province recently welcomed a large number of visitors during the Spring Festival.      

Rong County, with a history of lantern show for thousands of years, boasts the world’s largest Sakyamuni Buddha.

It has spent large efforts in building a culture and tourism festival through using artistic language of lantern culture to tell wonderful stories of Buddhist culture.    

The fair includes three main exhibition areas with a total of 51 large-scale lantern groups. The main streets in Rong County are also decorated with lanterns, involving 38 Buddhist culture lantern groups. The viewing area of the fair covers nearly 60,000 square meters.

“Auspicious Buddha Pottery Treasure Vase” lanterns 

One of the largest lantern groups is the “Auspicious Buddha Pottery Treasure Vase” group, which is made from ten thousand pieces of colored pottery.

This group is created from the “Vase” in the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism, using 10,000 earthen pottery jars, 10,000 earthen lotus petals and 10,000 LED lights.

It is reported that this lantern group will apply to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records.
