Tibet to invest 4.6 bln dollars in cultural industries over the next five years

The Tibet Autonomous Region convened a second meeting to solicit suggestions on Feb. 25 on its projected investment in the construction of over 80 cultural industrial projects in the next five years, China Tibet News reported.

Cultural Industry Division of Tibet’s Department of Culture Nyima Tsering said that the “Tibet Autonomous Region Cultural Industry Development Plan in the "13th Five-Year Plan” period (2016-2020) defined the structure for development of cultural industries in Tibet and determined three major parts, including “Construction of Distinctive Chinese Cultural Industry Park, Construction of ethnic Tibetan, Qiang, and Yi Cultural Industry Corridor, and Construction of Distinctive Ethnic Tibetan Cultural Industry Infrastructure” in more than 80 key cultural industry projects, with a total investment of more than 30 billion yuan(4.6 billion U.S. dollars). In addition, over the next five years, a system will be built up for developing distinctive ethnic Tibetan cultural industries, which will become new pillar industries in the region. The conference also emphasized that support in policies, funding and personnel should be granted for the implementation of these measures.

The plan is expected to be approved and implemented by June 30, Nyima Tsering added.
