The ancient Gyantse in Tibet is one of China's cities famous for its history and culture and has a reputation for being the "hometown of Tibetan blankets".

The world's biggest silver painted thangka was unveiled in Dunhuang, Northwest China's Gansu province, on Wednesday.

Tibetan boot craftsmanship has a history of more than 1,000 years. It uses cowhide and cow hells as raw materials, as well as traditional Tibetan wool fabrics for decoration.

"I was excited because there are still so many people living in the area, which helps keep the old street's authenticity alive," recalls Cao, an architecture professor.

Thirteen centuries later, Princess Wencheng's legacy is still bringing economic benefits to the people of the Tibet autonomous region.

The opening ceremony for the 2017 Gyantse "Damar Cultural Festival" was held in Gyantse County, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet on August 6.

"Bamboo slips have very rich culture. I hope that this precious art and culture will be understood and passed down to future generations."

The Yushu Horse Racing Festival is currently the largest gathering in Tibetan-inhabited areas in Qinghai, and the Gyathang Grassland in the region is known as "China's equestrian town".
