Regong art industry enriches local people

The Regong handicraft, an important school of China’s Tibetan Buddhist arts encompasses Thangka, barbola, color painting on architecture and butter sculpture. It is named after its origin, Regong in Tongren County of Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Region in northwest China’s Qinghai Province. The recent years saw a thriving art industry in Regong, opening a new path to shaking off poverty for over 20,000 ethnic Tibetans and people of other ethnic groups in the area. Currently, the Regong art industy is valued at 250 million yuan annually.
