The world’s highest blood station, Ngari Blood Station, came into service on July 21, in Ngari Precture of Tibet Autonomous Region, Xinhua reported.
The blood station was established with the help of Shaanxi Health and Family Planning Commission and Blood Centre of Shaanxi Province.
The construction of Ngari Blood Station declares the end of the history of having no professional agency to collect and supply blood in this area.
This newly built blood station possesses equipment meeting the requirements on the municipal level in inland China and is of great importance to the improvement of the medical and health services and emergency medical treatment in Ngari Prefecture.
A set of equipment for the whole procedure of blood collecting and supplying with a total value of 550, 000 yuan (88,600 US dollars) was donated by northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, such as that for blood collection, storage, preparation, transportation, examination and quality control. All of the equipment has already been put into use. Support will also be provided concerning related equipment and the informatization of the blood station at a later stage.
There had been no central blood station in Ngari Prefecture. All the blood for clinical use was collected and supplied by medical institutions of various levels before.
Shaanxi Health and Family Planning Commission signed the Agreement on Blood Collection and Supply with the government of Ngari Prefecture in September 2011. According to the agreement, the commission will provide help for the construction of the blood station and technical personnel training and management mainly through technical support though material and financial support will also be received.
The Ngari Blood Station was established in October 2013 and started its trial operation in September 2014.
