Nepali students who have studied in China are skilled human resources in the country and are acting as goodwill ambassadors to boost the bilateral ties, Madhu Prasad Regmi, secretary atMinistry of Educationsaid Tuesday.

He made the remarks at the fourth gathering of Nepali students who have studied in China, which was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council and attended by some 300 Nepalis who have studied in Chinese universities.

Addressing the gathering, Chinese ambassador Yu Hong said the Chinese government has increased the number of scholarship programs for Nepali students in recent years.

It is remarkable that Nepali students are contributing to the promotion of bilateral relations after completing their studies in China, she noted.

Dr Anupama Thapa Basnet, the country's first pediatric surgeon, was among the attendees who studied medicine in China and she is currently the consultant pediatric surgeon at Kanti Children Hospital.

"China's education system is much more advanced than that of Nepal and other countries. The experience and learning in China has made me the one who I am today, I am thankful to China," Basnet told Xinhua.

Many of the participants shared the similar experiences and appreciated the Chinese education system and cultural richness.

"Chinese universities are enriched with practical knowledge which is very useful for Nepal," Diwakar Sharma, head of the Cardiology Department at National Heart Center, told Xinhua. He also informed that among 31 members in their department, 17 are post graduates from China.

According to the Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council, nearly 5,000 Nepali students have studied in China, starting from 1957.
