Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Wednesday met with former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama in Beijing.

Wang, also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said the two countries should enhance talks and mutual trust, and safeguard the political foundation of bilateral ties while focusing on consensus, as that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan ties.

He said the two sides should adhere to the four political documents between China and Japan, as well as the four-point principled agreement reached in 2014.

Friendship groups in China and Japan should maintain efforts to strengthen friendship between the two peoples, he said.

Hatoyama said he will endeavor to encourage youth to cement mutual understanding, and help create a favorable environment for improving bilateral ties.

Hatoyama is in China leading a delegation from the Japanese Yuai Association, which was founded to promote the spirit of fraternity.
