Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, 2017

President Xi visited Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, Beijing's co-host city for the 2022 Games, to listen to a briefing on preparatory work and inspect proposed venue areas around Chongli county on Jan 23.

"There should be clear positioning of this region for future development. Rather than developing into a large-scale comprehensive metropolitan area, Chongli should be built into a ski destination with a strong local character," Xi said.

Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, 2017

President Xi Jinping wished residents of poverty-stricken Desheng village in Xiaoertai township of Zhangbei county, Zhangjiakou, a happy new year on Jan 24. He discussed with villagers and local cadres could the best steps to shake off poverty.

He stressed the importance of precision in the battle against poverty, saying that poverty alleviation should focus on targeted people and industries, and use the right tools to produce results.

"Fighting poverty is the fundamental task in building an all-round moderately prosperous society," Xi said.

Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, 2017

Xi inspected an infant dairy company in Zhangjiakou on Jan 24, 2017. Xi said stepped-up efforts would lead to healthy economic growth through developing such emerging industries as dairy production.

Xi vowed to make China's dairy industry "strong and excellent", promoting top-quality national brands to the world and building industry chains that are internationally competitive.

Jinggangshan, Jiangxi province, 2016

President Xi visited Shenshan village, Jinggangshan city, Jiangxi province, on Feb 2, 2016. He helped make dough for ciba, a glutinous rice delicacy that is a local Spring Festival favorite.

"Measures and work to alleviate and eliminate poverty must be precise. Policies should be made according to the (needs of) households and individuals," Xi said.

"No one should drop out," he told villagers during his talk with them about the country's efforts to achieve moderate prosperity.

Nanchang, Jiangxi province, 2016

President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, shakes hands with senior military officers stationed in Jiangxi on Feb 2, 2016.
