Beijing holds Tibetan yak art exhibition
An exhibition featuring yak art opened in Beijing at the Capital Museum Thursday.
The exhibition displaying over 500 yak-related items from Tibet shows the lifestyle of the Tibetan people and the history of yaks, said Wu Yuchu, curator of a yak museum based in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet, which jointly organized the exhibition.
Yak fossils dating back 45,000 years, 2,000 year-old wild yak accessories, mural paintings dating back centuries, and Tibetan Buddhist scroll paintings are on display at the exhibition.
Guo Xiaoling, curator of Capital Museum, said it was the first time for the museum to display yak art.
"I hope the exhibition, as an activity spreading yak and Tibetan culture, will help visitors in Beijing learn about the charm of plateau culture without necessarily going there," he said.
