Roads which had been blocked by a 5.5-magnitude earthquake in northern Tibet on Wednesday have now been reopened.

This means transportation access to the epicenter, near the town of Kata, is now completely open.

All 8 roads leading to the community near the border with Qinghai were blocked by landslides.

The quake itself put dozens of people in hospital, and also did significant damage to the local herding operations in the area.

"I have over 100 yaks and there are thousands of yaks in the village. We don't know how many of them were killed and how many of them remain alive," a villager says.

So far damage estimates from the earthquake have not been calculated.
