BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday reaffirmed that Hong Kong affairs are its internal affairs and no other country may interfere.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang made the remarks in response to a U.S. State Department report which expressed concern about developments in Hong Kong.
"Events over the past year, however, raised concerns that greater central government influence and interference are eroding Hong Kong's autonomy," said the Hong Kong Policy Act Report issued this week.
Since Hong Kong's return to China in 1997, the principle of "one country, two systems" and the Hong Kong Basic Law have been faithfully enforced, Lu told a daily press briefing.
"Hong Kong residents enjoy every right and freedom they are entitled to in accordance with the law, " he said.
The Chinese government's determination to implement the principle of "one country, two systems" will not change, he added.
Lu said the U.S. report is unreasonable interference in Hong Kong affairs.
He said certain people on the U.S. side want to disturb Hong Kong, disturb its socio-economic development, disturb the normal order of its residents' lives, and use Hong Kong to interfere in China's internal affairs.
"This can only be futile," he said.
