China's 65-year-old double amputee Xia Boyu is going all out to accomplish an extremely challenging task -- scaling the world's highest mountain Qomolangma.

He arrived at the C3 camp this afternoon at 7,000 meters on the Himalayas and is expected to reach the top of Qomolangma at the altitude of 8848m on Thursday.

A former Chinese national team climber, Xia made an attempt to reach the peak 40 years ago, in which he gave the sleeping bag to his teammate who had lost it. The un-selfish act high up in the death zone cost him both his legs.

With the help of artificial limbs, he recollected the dream of climbing the Mount Qomolangma.

He kept training in a bid to realize his dream and conquered cancer that he was diagnosed in 1997.

He had a failed attempt in 2014 due to avalanche.
