In Shigatse’s Gyirong County everyone is ushering in 2016 as post-disaster reconstruction takes place after the Nepal earthquake. To combat the winter cold, Gyirong County government has helped 14,000 disaster victims by providing firewood, relocation housing, public rental housing, portable housing and a number of other initiatives. Meanwhile, according to Tibet Gyirong Port Administrative Committee, Gyirong Port opened again on Oct.13, 2015, having closed for half a year due to the earthquake. It has also taken on some of the functions of Zham Port, providing impetus to Sino-Nepalese bilateral trade. Through the joint efforts of the government and people, Gyirong is welcoming in a new start after the disaster.
